Selection of the location
Basically, flowers and meadow herbs thrive best on rather lean, dry soil. Fat, nutrient-rich soils are more of a breeding ground for more competitive crops (such as dandelions, stinging nettles) and grasses. If the soil is not optimal at your intended location, you can either lean it out or adjust the desired vegetation to the ground. For some sowing seeds, special seed mixtures are available for skim, sand and other grasslands. However, the location should definitely be sunny.
Preparation of the soil
The preparation of the soil depends on how it was previously used. Is it a lawn, fallow or meadow area? If there is any growth on it, you should remove it with a spade and replace it with a fresh earth-sand mixture. Mere digging is usually not enough, as there are still rhizomes and seeds of unwanted plants remaining in the soil, which can eventually reappear. After removing the scar, thoroughly dig and crush coarse clods. Then level the surface with a rake and crumble the soil as finely as possible.
Sowing and care
Once that's done, you can sow the selected flower meadow mixture. Expect about 5 to 10 grams of seed per square meter of meadow area. Rake the seeds carefully with a rake into the soil, which is only a few millimeters long - after all, most meadow flowers are light germs. Compact the soil with a lawn roller or similar and moisten it - the seeds must not dry out in any case, because otherwise they only germinate badly. The first mowing is carried out about ten weeks after sowing and is mainly used to destroy weeds.
