The Schopflavendel - botanical Lavandula stoechas - is a popular potted plant on the balcony and terrace, mainly due to its distinctive flower shape. If lavender bushes are not pruned, they lignify strongly and thus become unsightly - in addition, no new shoots and thus blossoms are released from the old wood. A vigorous cut always stimulates the plant to new shoots and brings a magnificent flowering.

The best time to cut the Schopflavendels is the early spring, when no new shoots have developed. A fall cut should be better avoided, as this robs the plant of the power to survive the winter. The fact that your baby lavender begins to wither is often recognized by the faded color of the flowers. By the beginning / middle of August, you should cut out the blooms, because then the plant can invest its power in a second flowering period, rather than seed. In this way you can extend the already long flowering time of this lavender species considerably.Do not cut back later than August because otherwise you will rob the plant of the power needed for the winter.
Rejuvenate baby lavender
If lavender is not pruned regularly, it lumbers and literally falls apart. On heavily woody branches, however, only a few leaves and no flowers develop, so that the bush verkaltet. In order to rejuvenate an old lavender, you have to cut it back strongly - although it is also true that you should not cut into old wood. You should also do the rejuvenation cut only in spring or early summer so that the plant can recover.
