Which stem is suitable?
In the specialized trade you will find many different stems, which u.a. differ in material, handle shape and of course length and diameter. With regard to the material, wooden stalks are still the most popular and are the easiest to replace. To find the right size, you should remove the old spade stem and measure the diameter of the opening. For the length, it is best to measure the old shovel handle and choose the same one.
Handle shape of the blade
In principle, three different handle shapes for shovels, spades and Co. Differences:
The button handle is ergonomically less useful, because it offers no grip for the hands, which is why it is rarely used.
T- and D-grips, on the other hand, are equally popular and more of a tasteful taste: with the D-grip, you grip into a D-shaped triangle and thus have a secure hold, while the T-grip grips a horizontal bar that holds it also makes it possible to shovel and dig comfortably. It's best to choose the handle shape that you already had before and to which you are used.
Step by step, shovel into shovel
1. Remove old shovel handle
First loosen screws or nails that fix the blade handle to the blade head. Then turn your shovel over and hit the long side with the narrow side on the part of the old handle, which protrudes slightly from the opening, until the stalk rest can be pulled out.
2. Insert new stem
Be sure to set up the handle in the correct orientation: the handle has a slight bend; This must point to the rear and should not be at an angle. Insert the handle into the opening, grasp the metal neck with both slopes and beat the head with the handle downwards on the ground several times, so that the handle slides deeply into the opening.
3. Tighten the handle
Finally, screw the blade head firmly in place at the end of the handle.
