Horsetail does not develop flowers but spores
Horsetail belongs to the ferns. These do not form flowers, but they multiply via spores. If you want to prevent horsetail spreading in the garden, you should cut these spores immediately so that no spores are distributed.
Horsetail do not get flowers
In the spring appear first small, mostly brownish shoots, which remind a little of thin mushrooms. They carry up an ear in which spores are formed.
The spores are blown by the wind, depending on the species from late April to June. The horsetail spreads thereby also at more distant places.
In the field horsetail spore ears are edible and can be eaten in salads and as a vegetable.
Tips
There is an important differentiator between field horsetail and the toxic marsh horsetail. At the field horsetail, the spore ear first appears. Only when she has retired, drive out the green summer leaves.
