Plant column cypresses in spring
With its very slender, upright growth, the column cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), also known as the Mediterranean or Tuscan cypress, is particularly suitable as an evergreen hedge or as an interesting solitaire. The woody plants are not hardy everywhere in our latitudes, but can also be cultivated in sufficiently large pots.

Like all cypresses, pillar cypresses like the sun, but full sun is not always an advantage. In particular, if the soil tends to dry quickly, the wood should be better placed in a partially shaded location. It is also important that the tree receives a sheltered place from wind and frost.
In which soil should columnary cypresses be planted?
Ideal for the Mediterranean evergreen are not too heavy, clayey soils with a pH between 5 and 6. Very well suited are humus rich, well drained soils, whereas both sandy and loamy soils with compost or humus soil should be improved. Make sure that the substrate is neither too wet nor too dry: both tolerate the wood not very well.
