The 32nd Federal Immission Control Ordinance gives the following general guidelines for the operation of lawnmowers in Germany.
Very quiet electric and cordless lawnmowers are marked with the EU's yellow-blue eco-label and are not subject to the noon regulations. Cutting the lawn with a hand mower is allowed at any time - also on Sundays and public holidays.
Länder and municipalities issue special regulations
Beyond the above mentioned regulation, the federal states, cities and municipalities have the right to regional regulations. It is therefore recommended to inform yourself before the first mowing of the new lawn. The disregard of noise regulations is in fact no trivial offense and will be punished with fines of up to 50,000 euros.
Not all areas are affected
The legal regulation as of when lawn mowing is allowed or not allowed mainly concerns residential areas. Within commercial and industrial areas, rest periods do not work, given the general level of noise.
Tips & Tricks
With all understanding of the need for lawn mowing, the noise tightens during well-deserved rest periods on the nerves and at worst makes you ill. This harassment does not have to be tolerated. With the help of a dedicated noise protocol a comprehensible proof can be documented.
