Radishes - A pleasure also from the freezer
The crisp radishes are equally popular with young and old. Whether as a bunch coming from the supermarket or plucked fresh from the garden soil. Hard to believe, but the red tubers can actually freeze.
Only fresh radishes are allowed in the chest
Still crisp today, shrunken tomorrow. Who does not know that? Radishes quickly lose moisture and thus their freshness. They are no longer really tasty. The freezing is worthwhile in such copies not, because the cold does not bring back the old quality.
The green herb has to consecrate
Only the round tuber migrates into the mouth, the accompanying remainder comes off before eating. This is no different with frozen pieces. Here everything superfluous is removed before freezing. How to prepare the radishes for the cold:
- Cut the leaves and root remains with a sharp knife. Now clean the tubers with cold water. Drain the radishes on kitchen paper. Put the dry radishes in a well-closed freezer. Alternatively, the freezing in a freezer bag is possible, but it must necessarily be sealed well.
Radishes do not stick together
While other vegetables are always packaged in portions, this is not necessary with radishes. The small round tubers can be easily removed individually. But this works only when the radishes come absolutely dry in the freezer.
Water on radishes is also to be avoided for another reason. It would freeze to ice, which in turn negatively affects the quality of radishes.
Label freezer
Red radishes in a transparent freezer bag are easy to spot. In a colored tin, however, not. Do not do without labeling. If the lid is opened when frozen, it can easily burst.
Thawing has its pitfalls
Frozen radishes thawing unprotected in the fresh air disappoint our expectations:
Therefore, only thaw radishes in a closed container so that their moisture is fully absorbed.
Tips
Glassy radishes are not a sign of freezing errors, nor an indication of quality loss. This is much more their typical look after thawing. They are still very suitable for consumption.
Month long durability
The tubers, which like to come with a touch of sharpness therefore survive 6 to 8 months of freezing cold. However, they rarely have to stay in the chest for so long, so they are in demand as a snack. If this time has been exceeded, you should rather avoid the radishes. This is not difficult, because fresh radishes are offered in supermarkets all year round cheap.
