What do you need to grow mushrooms?
In addition to the right place with a uniform microclimate and temperatures of about 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, you also need a suitable cultivation substrate and the spores for inoculating the material for the mushroom cultivation. You can buy in the trade partially finished cultivation kits in which the substrate was already inoculated with fungal spores and only needs to be cast. But you can also acquire spores in rod form, from which the mushroom mycelium can spread through the straw bale or the coconut substrate.
Do mushrooms need light to grow?
In principle, fungi do not photosynthesize, but derive their energy to grow partly as mycorrhizal fungi from a symbiosis with various tree and plant species. Thus, the fruiting bodies of the fungi also form independently of the light, but sunlight can promote the growth of fungi as a source of heat. Mushrooms can be grown just as well in a bright greenhouse, with a darker cellar offering better conditions for champignon mushrooms due to the more consistent temperature and humidity levels.
Tips & Tricks
Mushrooms can usually only be colonized with suitable spore sets in the form of vaccination sticks at a desired place. However, you may be lucky if you mix the remains of unwashed and uncooked mushrooms in a shady, damp place in the garden with the earth. The adherent fungal spores can provide for mushroom propagation in perennial conditions.
