Mushrooms in your own garden
The multiplication of fungi is often tied to very specific location factors in forests and meadows. Nevertheless, some fungus sometimes occur in the middle of the lawn or under trees in their own garden.
Preserve or eliminate fungi
Many of the mushrooms in the garden are not suitable for human consumption. But you can still represent a visual enrichment in an otherwise often monotonous green garden. Caution is advised, even if small children or dogs play in your garden. If the fungi in the garden can not be clearly identified as non-toxic, they should be removed for the sake of caution.
Reasons for mushroom growth in the garden
There can be different reasons for a sudden growth of mushrooms in the garden. Often mushrooms even occur in the flower box when commercial potting soil has been used in planting. Often this contains small pieces of wood, on which small fungi develop from already contained fungal spores in accordance with the symbiosis of the mycorrhizal fungi. This problem can be partially circumvented if potted plants use only soil from their own garden or humus from the composter. In addition, waterlogging can promote the growth of mushrooms in the garden.
Eliminate fungi in the lawn
In the grass vigorous mushrooms do not damage the grass, but often interfere visually the decent picture of the sward. These occur particularly often after the laying of turf, as it is grown on compost humus, which is enriched with small wood particles. The following measures can help to contain a fungus plague in the garden:
When mowing, make sure that the mushrooms have not yet reached a fully developed stature height. Otherwise, by mowing the spores of mushrooms could be even more distributed in the garden.
Mushrooms deliberately settle in the garden
The cultivation of mushrooms in their own garden for the purpose of use as food is rather difficult, since not only the respective spores of the fungus species, but also very specific environmental factors are needed. Mushrooms can therefore not necessarily be cultivated in the garden as a mushroom fungus, but in a cellar or garden shed that is evenly tempered. With a bit of luck, however, the spores of mushroom remains can form natural mushroom cultures if composted in a sheltered spot in their own garden.
Grow mushrooms on tree trunks
Certain types of edible mushrooms may be successfully grown in your own garden if you have a stock of deadwood in a shady spot. With spores of oyster and limonite pests, decomposing tree trunks can be selectively colonized in a protected location. Once the mushroom mycelium has grown through the tree trunk, then the tasty fruiting bodies appear on the outside of the tree trunk.
Tips & Tricks
Even in your own garden, the basic rule is that mushrooms should only be consumed as edible mushrooms if they are absolutely safe. Otherwise, they do not necessarily have to be fought if no children or dogs play in the garden. Enjoy the mushrooms as a miracle of nature, which is difficult to control.
