How does Phlox best winter?
Perennial phlox is usually sufficiently hardy. A sunscreen for the sensitive varieties such as the early summer phlox is recommended. With a layer of mulch protect your poppy even in winter from drying out.
During a particularly long frost period or in extremely cold conditions, you can protect your Phlox from frost with a layer of foliage or fir twigs. Do not water it in the winter, but do not give it up. Many plants die of thirst in winter rather than freezing. Fertilizer does not need your phlox in winter.
