Peonies: Cut back before wintering
Fungus spores settle on the leaves and can even stick to them to hibernate again next spring. Especially for this reason, it is recommended to cut peonies back in the autumn before wintering.
Radically cut down perennial peonies
Many a gardener cuts his perennial peonies radically back directly after the heyday. This is a mistake! The roots pull until the autumn of strength from the above-ground parts of plants. Cut your perennial peonies only when the leaves turn yellow in September / October!
Cut shrub peonies if necessary
In principle, shrub peonies need no pruning. But if you plan it anyway, fall is a good time to cut it down:
