Peppermint has played an important role in England since its discovery in the 17th century as a spice herb, tea and medicinal plant. The cabbage is easy to grow in the garden and on the balcony and is therefore cultivated worldwide.

Peppermint is quite robust and can be grown on the balcony or terrace both outdoors and in a pot.
The plant needs a nutritious, well-drained soil. It prefers a partially shaded location. Direct sunshine affects the aroma.
When choosing a location, make sure that peppermint does not tolerate itself or chamomile. Also to other labiates, distance should be maintained. A change of location after three years at the latest is sensible in order to curb the spread of diseases.
Harvest peppermint
Peppermint can be harvested at any time. The best harvest time is right before flowering, because then the proportion of essential oils is particularly high. If peppermint is to be preserved, this harvest season is to be preferred.
Even after flowering, the leaves can be safely consumed or processed into tea. They contain no toxins, but taste a bit tart than before flowering.
Multiply peppermint
Propagation of peppermint is usually done on foothills and cuttings. Also a root division is possible. By sowing it is quite difficult to multiply, since the germination of the seeds is not very high.

The healing effect of peppermint still plays a major role today. In 2019 the plant was named the "medicinal plant of the year".
