The peyote cactus is characterized by its flattened shoots. He has no thorns unlike many other types of cactus. The breeding of peyote is not expensive. Only the hibernation is not easy. The cactus can be grown from cuttings or seeds.

The peyote cactus contains agents that are psychoactive and resemble those of the mescaline. Consumption is therefore prohibited. However, it is quite permissible to take care of a peyote cactus, as long as you do not consume it.

Propagation from cuttings
As cuttings use side shoots. Cut it off with a sharp, clean knife. Let the interfaces dry. After a few days, plant the cuttings in prepared small pots of pumice.
Cultivation from seeds
The seed must not be too old. It should be stored dry until sowing. In order to increase the germination ability, it is first placed in the fridge for a month, one month in advance. Then it is kept for another two weeks at room temperature.

Bright location and cool wintering
To grow a peyote, you need a good location. It must be very bright and as sunny as possible. In summer, you may also like to put it outside, as long as the place is protected from rain.
In order for the peyote to develop flowers, it needs a longer break in winter in cool temperatures. They should ideally be at ten degrees. It should not be much cooler, because the peyote is not hardy.
Tips
The peyote cactus develops very long taproots. Therefore, plant it in a sufficiently deep pot, so that the roots have enough space.
