Petunias are native to South America and would like to thank for the planting in as full sun as possible, with a lush and long-lasting flowerage. However, petunias require comparatively much attention in nursing compared to other flowering plants.
The water needs of petunias
The relatively high water requirements of petunias should not lead to excessive watering because they can react to waterlogging at the roots with disease-like deficiency symptoms. This can be prevented if the balcony boxes are provided with appropriate drainage holes and a drainage layer of gravel. In a sufficiently permeable substrate, however, it may well be appropriate in the middle of summer for larger specimens or hanging petunia to water the plants daily, as soon as the dry soil separates easily from the balcony box wall.
