The heyday of petunias
Despite a certain susceptibility to diseases and pests, the petunias available in many colors are especially popular as balcony plants. This is not least due to the high number of flowers that are constantly forming new and thus ensure an extremely long flowering period.

The first flowers show up in the petunia depending on location and time of cultivation in May or June. If the plants are then sufficiently watered and fertilized over the summer, gradually new flowers gradually form on a sunny spot. This abundance of flowers usually comes to an end in October or November, when the delicate plants die off by the first night frosts. If related species such as the magic bells are planted instead of the petunia, the opening and closing of the flowers can be observed with the time of day and the respective weather.

Since petunias are not hardy outdoors, they are mostly composted in the fall. However, they can also be wintered successfully in a vigorous pruning and in a suitable winter quarters.
Tips
For aesthetic reasons and in favor of plant health, withered petunia flowers are regularly plucked during flowering. But if you let the seed capsules ripen on some flowers, then you can pull on the window sill petunias for the new season from seed itself in February.
