Passion flower multiply by offshoot
Just as with the propagation of cuttings, it is cutters to clones of the mother plant. Their advantage, however, is that the young plants are fed by the adult Passiflora until they have rooted themselves.
Lowerers are more resistant than cuttings
Although it takes cuters on average for at least eight months to grow enough roots to be separated from the mother plant - much longer than cuttings that have been self-sufficient from the outset - they are also more resilient to diseases and pests. For many shrubs and shrubs, the Absenker method promises significantly better results than the cuttings propagation, in the passion flower, however, the chosen method is basically irrelevant. Passiflora cuttings are usually fast and reliable, but are quite susceptible to spider mite infestations and similar plant-sucking pests.
Propagation of Passiflora by sinkers
In order to be able to pull down successfully, your Passiflora should either be in a sufficiently large pot or you may be able to place a smaller seed pot in the immediate vicinity. This method is to be preferred if possible, otherwise the roots of the individual plants may otherwise be confused. Absenker should be planted in the spring.
The sinker should remain on the mother plant until the following spring and be overwintered with it.
Tips & Tricks
In winter grown shoots usually do not bloom, so you can cut them back in the spring quiet. A cut also stimulates the growth and branching of the young plant, which should be separated from the mother plant from about April / May.
