The harvest time with the tropical papaya
Papayas are not only astonishing with their relatively fast growth and their papaya flowers, which are awake right on the trunk. They can not easily be classified into a fixed scheme even at the harvest time of ripe papayas.
Enjoy fresh papayas all year round
Nowadays, fresh papayas can be bought throughout the year from growing areas in Central America, South America and Asia in the food trade. Since these come in semi-mature state in the shipping here, you have to let them ripen when eating as a sweet fruit at home usually something else. Since papayas require relatively uniform temperatures between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius throughout the year to form fruits, a culture is only possible with us as a room or container plant. The flowers and fruits form with sufficient warmth year-round depending on the sowing time.
Tips & Tricks
If your papayas do not fully mature in the autumn due to the lack of sufficient warm weather, you can process the still unripe fruits according to recipes from Laos and Thailand such as vegetables to curries, chutneys and salsas.
