To multiply the olive tree - this is how to breed your own tree
The most success promises an increase in cuttings, but also the extraction of an olive tree from the seed core is possible. However, a lot of heat is needed for successful breeding.
Propagation over cuttings
Select one or more young shoots that are not yet lignified from an existing tree. These should have a length of between about five to ten centimeters, in addition, there should be some eyes. If possible, do not cut the cut edge straight but at an angle - this will make it easier for the cutting material to absorb water later. Now proceed as follows:
When do you have to repot an olive tree?
Olives are extremely slow-growing trees, so repotting in the first year is probably not yet necessary. Depending on how big you have chosen the potting pot, you can wait even longer with repotting. Pots for olives should not be too big, otherwise the roots will grow too strong and the growth of the actual tree will be neglected. Optimal are pots that are about one third larger than the treetop.
Propagation over seed kernels
Somewhat more difficult, but by no means impossible is the propagation of an olive tree over seed kernels. But you can only use the seeds of fully ripe, fresh olives or seeds from the trade. The kernels of pickled or otherwise processed olives are no longer germinable. And that is how it works:
