Oleander should be wintered frost-free
Keep the oleander in the bucket in the winter
As a Mediterranean plant Oleander is not only not used to the typical German winter, but would not survive it either. Although the shrub tolerates briefly low minus degrees (depending on the variety and age of the plant to about minus five degrees Celsius), but does not survive longer periods with lower frosts. Oleander should therefore be cultivated in pots and overwintered frost-free if possible.
Oleander frost-free and cool over winter
This means frost-free that Oleander should only be cleared to winter quarters, when actually frosty temperatures are predicted. If the winter is rather mild, the plant - with appropriate protection - can also stay outside. Conversely, of course, the bucket in the spring as early as possible to bring back into the open. Otherwise Topfoleander overwinters best at about five degrees Celsius and as bright as possible, with a cool winter in need of a dark room is sufficient. Do not forget to water the plant about once a month.
Tips
If you have no possibility of chilly wintering, then you can also accomodate the oleander in the apartment. Keep in mind, though, that it must be bright during a warm winter.
