Oleander is a tireless flowering plant: in good conditions - ergo in warm and sunny weather - the shrub flowers between May and October with numerous delicate flowers. This property can exploit the hobby breeder both for propagation and to breed their own varieties.
Fertilize oleander flowers
But before the oleander can produce fruits, the flowers must first be fertilized. The flowers of the plant are hermaphrodite, d. H. both female and male. Theoretically, self-pollination is possible, but it is more likely that two different oleander exchange genetic information - this is also necessary, for example, to obtain new varieties. Normally the fertilization takes place over animals or insects, the hobby breeder can accomplish this task however also by hand. All you need is a brush to transfer pollen from one blossom to another right after opening the flower buds.
Create good conditions for ripening the pods
Not every summer, the education of the pods will be crowned with success, for this the oleander needs a lot of sun and heat. In rather cool and rainy summers can therefore turn out the bloom.
