Oleander offshoots can be rooted in the water
Oleander is easy to propagate through offshoots
Even to pull oleanders out of cuttings or offshoots, is not that difficult - the evergreen plant can be rooted quite easily. You do not even need to cut suitable shoots, but you can instead use any clippings from the annual pruning.
Select and cut suitable cuttings
Basically, all plant parts of the oleander root, from the delicate head cuttings to the already lignified shoot. If you want to be on the safe side, however, it is best to choose the tops of young shoots, which are then removed from the mother plant with a sharp and clean knife. Be careful not to squeeze the interface. At best, keep the cut at a slight angle, as this will make it easier for the plant to absorb water. Lastly, remove all the sheets except for the top sheet pair. If this is also very large, you can halve the individual leaves.
Rooted oleander offshoot in a glass of water
Since oleander offshoots require a lot of water for rooting, it makes sense to place the offshoots in a glass of water. Although this measure is not absolutely necessary - you can also put the shoots in seedling soil - but promises a higher success rate.Change the water daily as the exuding sap inhibits rooting. The glass with the cuttings should be in a warm and bright (but not full sun!) Location, for example, on a windowsill. The roots form within about four weeks.
Plant rooted cuttings
As soon as the fine roots are about one to two centimeters long, you can first plant the young plantlets in potting soil. However, first immerse them in a powder containing growth hormones, this facilitates the growth. Water the tender plantlets regularly and vigorously, and also ensure high humidity. For this purpose, slip a disposable glass or a cut PET bottle over the cutting. Do not forget to air it daily.
To take care of young oleanders properly
Now let the young oleander develop vigorously. Until it has formed several new shoots and grown vigorously, can once again pull several weeks into the country. Once the plant is strong enough, repotting can be done in normal potting soil. Make sure you have plenty of water and plenty of light, and it is best to place the young plant in a sheltered location in the open air when the weather is fine. Be careful not to expose them to direct sunlight right away - otherwise you will burn quickly. You do not need the freshly planted oleander for fertilizing. Keep the cutting cool, but frost-free and as bright as possible. Only water it so far that the root ball does not dry out. In early spring, you get used to the young plant slowly in a sheltered outdoor space and also start fertilizing. With a little luck she will bloom already this season.
Tips
Always wear gloves when cutting oleander! The escaping plant juice is poisonous and can cause skin irritation.
