Cloves planted in the garden usually do not need any special winter protection, but can be left as they are. In the spring, you should only cut away the possibly frozen parts of the plant if they are two or more years old. In contrast to carnations, pot carnations should be protected from unfavorable temperatures, as the roots in the planters quickly threaten to freeze. Place the cloves on a base, for example made of styrofoam, as well as in a protected corner. In addition, you should not forget to water the plants in winter - but only on frosty days.

Tips

If you want to multiply your carnation by cuttings: in winter-mildew regions, you can plant the cuttings directly in the fall, then they root themselves right on the spot.
