Freeze marjoram only as a stopgap to recommend
Marjoram is not usually used fresh, but cooked in the food. Like all herbs, which are also very aromatic heated, you should dry marjoram rather than freeze. If the crop is too large, you can of course also conserve the herb in the freezer.
Prepare marjoram for freezing
Best harvest the Majoran stems in the morning. You should refrain from washing and cutting as much as possible. As a result, much flavor is lost.
So the herb is frozen
You need to freeze:
Lay all the stems side by side on the plate or board.
Make the freezer as cold as possible and leave the tin or board in it until the herbs have frozen through.
Then place the stems in a freezer bag and store in the freezer until needed.
Making herbal cubes
You have a little more work if you want to make herbal cubes from marjoram. This method is especially recommended if you had to wash the marjoram beforehand.
Cut the stems into small pieces, put them in an ice cube container and pour enough water into the cubes to cover the herbs completely. Cover the ice cube container in a freezer bag and allow the herbs to freeze.
You can then remove the herb cubes from the ice cube container and store in the freezer bag for up to six months in the freezer.
Make herbal mixtures
Unlike in the garden, marjoram in the freezer is also compatible with thyme and other herbs. Just put together your own herbal blend of different herbs.
The frozen herbs can be frozen in the food and give your dishes a very individual touch.
Drying is preferable
If you have the opportunity to dry marjoram, you should prefer this method of preservation. The aroma is better preserved and the herb is easier to portion.
Tips & Tricks
Marjoram is one of the most aromatic herbs from the garden. Its taste easily overlays all other spices. Therefore use marjoram sparingly in the kitchen and sow only a little herb in the garden.
