Growing Magnolia - So you have success with refining

Pulling magnolias out of seeds or offshoots is an elaborate affair for which you not only need good luck, but also a lot of patience. Such magnolia magnitudes take a very long time, possibly 10 years and longer, until they reach the point of blooming. You can quickly grow magnolia by refining. We show you how it works.

Magnolia breed through refinement

For finishing at the end of summer, about mid-August, choose this year's already woody shoot. As a base is suitable for about two years seedling of robust and undemanding Kobus magnolia. Ensure hygienic cleanliness during cutting, do not touch the interfaces and use a knife that is as sharp as possible. Work best with disposable gloves made of latex, so that no pathogens are introduced into the open wounds and destroy the finishing. Not only do you have to work cleanly, you also have to be very precise: the two interfaces should fit together as precisely as possible, making it easier to connect. It is important to work fast - the interfaces must not dry up.

Implementation of the finishing

In a first step, prepare the document:

Now cut the Edelreis:

Underlay and scions combine with each other within two to three weeks, creating a thick bead at the refining site.

Plant and cultivate refined magnolia

The freshly refined magnolia is still very sensitive and should therefore not be planted in the first year and wintered frost-free. Water regularly, but moderately. When planting (best time is April or May) make sure to plant the refining site above the ground.

Tips & Tricks

Propagation over cuttings is very difficult with Magnolia, because the exotic woody plants only with difficulty want to root. A root-propagation is therefore possible only via Abmoosen or lowered.
