Magnolia gets brown leaves, what to do?
Magnolias are quite insensitive to fungi and animal pests. However, they quickly resent a wrong location, inappropriate soil or improper care and react with a brown discoloration of the leaves.
Causes of brown leaves in magnolias
If your magnolia gets brown leaves, there may be several causes behind it. Not only the leaves, but also the leaf buds and flowers turn brown, so in late spring mostly late frosts are responsible. If such a source is out of the question, check the location and / or the soil condition. Full sun locations are as unsuitable for magnolias as a location on a lawn or even plantings. The soil must be slightly acidic, magnolias preferably like pH values between 5.5 and 6.5.

If your magnolia is in the wrong location, you should transplant it. Be sure to enrich the soil with acidic rhododendrons. If only the current location is exhausted, fertilize the plant best with a fertilizer for acidic soil (eg a rhododendron fertilizer). In late frost damage, however, you can not do much except waiting.
