Before you can repair a damaged area, you must first find it. That can often be tricky, especially with larger ponds.
For safety's sake, you should first have safely ruled out all alternative causes of water loss:
Try out all devices once. If the water loss stops, you can assume that the leak is most likely to be found in any pipes and pipes or on the equipment itself.
If all this has been safely ruled out, you actually need to look for the leak anywhere in the pond liner.
Restrict area
First, you need to narrow down the area where the damage is located. This can be done well by the sinking water level. The measure makes sense, because otherwise you would have to search the whole pond liner for the hole.
Fill the pond completely and mark the water level on the pond liner at regular intervals (for example daily). It is best to use chalk for it.
If the water level drops more slowly, or the sinking stops, you have found the damage area. The damage is then somewhere between the water level and the last mark.
Clean the foil with a soft cloth and gently wipe it off. You should be able to feel damage. Also check all seams in the appropriate area for leaks.
Very large holes can usually already be identified by the current: If damage is quite massive, leaves and small objects are usually drawn directly to the hole. You only need to follow the path they take.
Tips
If the pond liner looks brittle and brittle (especially with PVC films), this can also be a cause for the loss of water. In this case, the film is completely leaking and must be replaced.
