Most carnation species such as the Vexiernelke (Silene coronaria) like it sunny
The right place for the carnation
The carnation (Silene) belongs as well as the Dianthus carnations to the carnation plants. Like these, she prefers a sunny spot possible.
The more sun the better
The easy-to-care carnation prefers a sunny spot on not too humid, well-drained and humus-rich soil. The plant offers a special eye-catcher in gravel gardens or in gardens that are close to nature. Even in perennial beds together with shrubs such as Santas (Santolina) or Felted Hornwort (Cerastium tomentosum), the up to 80 centimeters high waking plant comes into its own. Since carnations can become quite wide, you should not set more than five to seven plants per square meter. The otherwise easy-care plant tolerates no moisture, especially no winter wet.
Tips
Propagation is by seeds, which are sown either immediately after their maturity or in spring. However, the plant also readily sows itself and in large numbers itself.
