The Lenzrose is poisonous from "head to toe"
Lenz roses are unfortunately very toxic!
The Lenzrose is like the Christmas rose a popular garden shrub, because it is robust, needs little care and produces very early in the year colorful flowers. Unfortunately, like all hellebore species, the perennial is highly poisonous.
Lenz roses are poisonous
The Lenz rose is strongly poisonous in all parts:
The perennial contains saponin as well as the glycosides Helleborein and Hellebrin. They are just as toxic as digitalis. In case of accidental ingestion, the doctor should be consulted immediately.
The vegetable juice has a skin irritating effect. In addition, the plant exudes a smell that causes sneezing in sensitive people. This has brought the main species also the name "hellebore". If children and pets enjoy the garden, care should be taken when cultivating lenten roses.
Tips
Do not plant lenten roses in a shaded location. In the shade, the flowers remain very small. Also here the danger of waterlogging is particularly high.
