Cut lavender trees
The Mediterranean lavender, a woody shrub with herbaceous waking new shoots, is very well suited to pull a Hochstamm from it. Sometimes there are such beautiful lavender stems but also to buy. To keep you happy for a long time, you should cut it regularly.
The right time
For the lavender tree, the same rules apply to cutting as to the traditional awake lavender. If possible, the trunk should be cut twice a year, with the main cut occurring in the spring before the first shoot - but only if no frost (especially night frost) is expected or if a longer warm period is announced. In general, this time is between March and April. A second cut is made after the flowering of the lavender, ergo between July and August. However, the summer cut should not take place later than the beginning of August, as the lavender will otherwise lose its winter protection and freeze to death - the withered stems help the plant survive the cold season.
Cut lavender stems - how?
When cutting the lavender tree you are basically the same as normal lavender. From the trunk itself most likely no shoots will grow because the plant does not expel from old wood. Ergo you usually just have to trim the crown. Cut about one to two thirds of the new shoots during the spring season, whereby you have to create an appealing crown - as evenly round as possible. All shoots that do not fit into this shape will be shortened accordingly. Make sure that you do not cut into the old wood - you recognize this by the brown color - but shorten it where the shoots are still green. In the summer cut, in principle, only the withered stems are cut off - of course, so that also creates an attractively shaped crown - and thus stimulated the plant to a second bloom.
Make a lofty lavender
If you have a nice lavender shrub and want to raise it to a high stem, do the following:
In another method, a clipping is first taken from an adult plant, rooted it and then raised from the beginning to a lavender stems.
Tips & Tricks
Do not be patient - educating a lavender bush or cuttings to a lavender lavender trunk will not work overnight. This process takes several years, during which you have to cut again and again to ensure that you have the best possible care.
