The visually striking, aged inflorescences sit in the turmeric plant on a pseudo trunk, which is formed from the leaf sheaths of the green leaves. For the propagation and cultivation of the plants, the flowers are not very relevant, since the splitting and planting of bulbous rhizomes is the simpler variant of propagation. The actual flowers are relatively unremarkable in saffron root. The more visually dominant part of the flowers, which emerge in different colors depending on the variety, consists of colored bracts that tower above the actual flowers.
Flowering time and flowering time of turmeric
Turmeric usually blooms in the summer months June to August when planting in the garden with propulsion in the house from spring. In a culture on the windowsill but other flowering periods can be achieved. An inflorescence can flower for up to three weeks before it dies by itself. If dead flowers are cut off relatively quickly, several inflorescences can be formed in a row over a period of about three months.
How to handle the plants after flowering
The aboveground plant parts are cut off at the latest in the autumn, when these become withered. Then the tubers are dug up well before the first frost and wintered at about 15 degrees Celsius room temperature dry and dark in the house.
