For this reason, you should use the initially more expensive, but significantly weather-resistant species such as larch, Douglas fir, sweet chestnut or oak. The most weather-resistant wood in Central Europe has the robinia, a very dense and heavy wood. Robinia wood is the first choice when it comes to buildings with direct earth contact. Also interesting for the construction of a herbal spiral is willow lichen, which, however, requires special protection against moisture.
Wood protection against decay
Wood rotted very quickly if not properly processed, especially if it is exposed to external weather conditions and direct contact with the earth permanent moisture. Various wood preservation measures can prevent or slow down this process, both constructively and chemically. The boards used for the herbal spiral should be lined with pond liner where they have contact with the earth. On the other hand, avoid using chemical wood preservatives as their poisonous ingredients are transferred to the herbs - and from there into your body.
