Grow herbal potherbs yourself - That's how it works

It is not without reason that herbalism is also known as the "kingstalk mushroom". The bittersweet, very spicy edible mushrooms are closely related to the oyster mushroom, similar in taste and appearance but rather the noble porcini mushrooms. Herb juices are not only delicious in taste, but also very versatile in the kitchen. With a ready-made culture, you can even draw the tasty fruiting bodies at home.

With a ready-made mushroom culture, cultivation is easy

Specialized retailers will provide you with ready-made mushroom cultures that grow on chipped wood and are wrapped tightly in plastic wrap. You basically have to do nothing but open these bags and keep the substrate moist. After all, with a suitable location and a high level of humidity, it will not take long for the first heads to show up. After harvesting, the ready-made culture can still be activated two to three times, so that you can harvest several kilograms of fresh mushrooms within a few weeks.

Activate and nurture mushroom cultivation

For successful mushroom growing, you first need a live location. You do not need a garden for cultivating the Kräuterseitlinge, because the ready culture can just as well on the balcony, in the basement or in the bathroom be set up - the main thing, the temperature is there between about ten and 20 ° C and the humidity is high. Herb apices like it moist, which is why the ideal humidity is about 90 percent. If you have no room to do this, it does not matter either. Since the plastic hood is still closed during the growing phase, it creates a kind of greenhouse effect - it is sufficiently moist inside the plastic bag. Light is only slightly needed.

When can you harvest the first herb saplings?

If you use a ready-made culture, you can harvest the first mushrooms after about two to three weeks. By the way, herb saplings can get very big, but do not wait too long to harvest - otherwise the taste suffers.

Clean and process herb slices

Immediately after the harvest, you can clean and process the herb salsions. Freshly seasoned with butter and just salt and pepper in the pan, the aromatic mushrooms taste best. For larger crops, you can also freeze, dry or insert a part easily.

Tips

When bought herbal seitlings you can sometimes find a fluffy, cobweb, white structure. This is not mold, but the mushroom mycelium. You can fry it and eat it or just cut it off and use it for your own mushroom cultivation.
