The different varieties of climbing hydrangea green whole house walls
In the genus Hydrangea, there is only one climbing species that has long since conquered our gardens. Hydrangea petiolaris is one of the most beautiful, which is available for home greening. By contrast, the very similar dummy hydrangea, which is also known as a split hydrangea, is largely unknown.

Hydrangea petiolaris is native to Japan and China, but has been used in Germany for greening house walls, old trees, pergolas, etc. for many years. However, the undemanding and robust plant is also suitable as groundcover due to its growth. The plate-shaped flowers are always creamy white and show a wreath of a few sterile petals, the flat middle of numerous fertile flowers is composed. At a young age, the climbing hydrangea is sometimes a bit lazy.
Hydrangea petiolaris - the most beautiful varieties
In Germany, different varieties of climbing Hydrangea Hydrangea petiolaris (yet?) Not too widespread. Basically, only four varieties are known in this country, this hydrangea species, of course, is much more variety-rich. The sham or split hydrangea is closely related to the climbing hydrangea, the main difference being in the shape of the petals only. The plate-shaped, also cream-white flowers have a wreath of a few sterile petals and a flat center of numerous fertile flowers. In contrast to the "real" climbing hydrangea, however, the baubles have heart shape and sit individually on the flower stalks. In the climbing hydrangea, however, always sit three to four together. The false hydrangea is as robust as undemanding and thrives excellently in partially shaded to shady locations.
Tips & Tricks
Both climbing hydrangeas should preferably be planted in a partially shaded to shady location. Only in very humid, deep soils a sunny spot is useful, but southern plains are unsuitable.
