Lucky clover should be hibernated in warm weather
Clover successfully overwinter
Certain types of clover are only cultivated by gardeners as green manure and therefore incorporated into the soil before the first frost. If the clover is kept for several years, a distinction must be made between the frost-hard and non-frost-hard clover.
The hardy types of clover
The white clover (Trifolium repens) and the red or meadow clover (Trifolium pratense) are easily hardy in most situations. Therefore, they can be grown over the winter as green manure and cattle feed. A replacement for the lawn in the garden is possible with these types of clover.
Hibernate the lucky clover successfully
The lucky clover (usually Oxalis tetraphylla) often given away as a potted plant on New Year's Eve is sensitive to frosty temperatures. He can, however, winter in the house under the following conditions, until spring-like temperatures ensure his place on the balcony or on the terrace:
Tips
To ensure that winter hardy clover species such as red and white clover are able to survive well in the field, they should be seeded at a new location at the latest in September.
