Root care and fertilization with lime
Under the liming of the cherry trees one understands on the one hand the Kalkdüngung and on the other hand the Kalkanstrich. The fertilization serves to increase the pH of the soil, the painting to the protection of the tree trunk.

More than the crown, the stem of a cherry tree is subject to damage due to the effects of weather, pests or fungi, and even more so the longer it is. The lime paint is used to protect the cherry tree from frost and sunburn. The dark cherry tree trunk heats up very much in sunshine. Particularly endangered are trees with long trunks in a southern position, which are exposed to intense sunshine during the winter and summer months.
In winter, the frost damage occurs because the daytime thawed juicy bark freezes on the wood of the trunk when the temperature drops during the night. In the summer, sunburn occurs in the heat of the day. A cherry tree trunk with the white lime coating reflects the sun's rays and does not heat up as much as an untreated tree trunk.

The plants need nutrients for their growth, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potash and calcium (= lime). These are contained in various compilations in the commercially available full or mixed fertilizers. If one of the nutrients is missing, it leads to deficiency symptoms. The lack of calcium leads u. a. that the absorption of nutrients and trace elements is impaired and favored by toxic substances.
Targeted application of calcicine is applied to acidic soils to increase their pH, improve soil structure and provide the cherry trees with nutrient calcium and magnesium. To determine exactly how much lime is needed, you should first have the pH determined in a soil analysis by a soil laboratory.
Tips & Tricks
Lime is available in powder form and is mixed in water according to the instructions on the package. The lime paint should be carried out around the beginning of December, extend over all strong stem and branch parts to the side shoots and be renewed annually.
