Tips for Maintaining Club Lilies (Cordyline)
Club lilies are not drawn because of their flowers, but because of their colored leaves. Since they are not hardy, they may at best in summer to the outdoors. Some species are even kept throughout the year in the house or conservatory. Tips for care.
What temperatures should prevail at the site?
There are two types of club lilies. Cordyline terminalis and fruticosa are warm-house club lilies grown throughout the year indoors. They need temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees.
Cordyline australis and indivisia are Kalthaus club lilies. They tolerate cooler temperatures and may be outdoors in summer.
How must club lilies be cast?
In summer, regular watering is important. The root ball should never completely dry out. Waterlogging must not occur! In winter, only very little is poured.
Use warmed, low-calcium water and increase the humidity by occasionally spraying the leaves.
When is fertilized?
During the growth phase, fertilize the club lily every two weeks as instructed. A commercial liquid fertilizer is sufficient.
In winter, stop fertilizing.
Can you cut club lilies?
If necessary, cut the club lily in the spring. Dried leaves may be cut off continuously.
Do you need to repot the club lily?
Wrap Cordyline in spring. Every two or three years, it should be put in fresh soil and a larger pot.
Which diseases and pests should be considered?
Most problems occur when the plant is too wet. This promotes the fouling of the roots and the spread of spider mites.
Always pour excess irrigation water away and increase the humidity by spraying more frequently.
How do you care for club lilies in winter?
Varieties for the hot house remain at their location. They also need temperatures between 18 and 22 degrees in winter. Just pour less and set the fertilizer almost completely. Occasional spraying protects against dehydration and pest infestation.
Cold-tree varieties overwinter in a bright place where temperatures are between eight and twelve degrees.
