Flaming Katy (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana)

The name of this colorful Kalanchoe honors the German plant breeder Robert Blossfeld. The succulent plant, which rarely grows more than thirty centimeters tall, with its dark green leaves, may be one of those houseplants that every plant friend has ever possessed. Originally always red, the color palette of the flowers today ranges from white to yellow and orange to pinks and lilacs.

Kalanchoe miniata (Madagascar bell)

These Kalanchoen, which grow to a height of between thirty and eighty centimeters, originally thrive in central Madagascar. The inflorescence looks very attractive and wonderfully fragile due to the small, hanging bells.


Cat's ear (Kalanchoe tomentosa)

This native of Madagascar, also often cultivated species has a bushy, compact habit. The leaves of the up to 50 centimeters large growing plant are elongated narrow and covered on both sides by a light, velvety down. The edge is only slightly serrated and has beautiful, bronze-colored polka dots.

Elephant ear (Kalanchoe beharensis)

This Kalanchoe has relatively large, very fleshy leaves whose appearance is reminiscent of elephant ears. Top and bottom have a velvety-felty structure, the edges are wavy. This Kalanchoe is one of the largest varieties, it can grow up to two meters high and is unfortunately one of the poisonous plants.

Kalanchoe daigremontiana (Brutblatt species)

The hatchet has its offspring always with it, because the offshoots grow directly on the leaf margins of the mother plant. From here they fall to the earth, where they grow directly. The Brutblatt species are according to the current scientific state, however, only close relatives of the Kalanchoe, but we would like to briefly list here. The independent plant family comprises about 30 varieties. Among them is also the famous Goethe plant (Bryophyllum calycinum) and these varieties:

The bright green, triangular leaves of the broody leaf are about ten inches long and are serrated. At each tooth, new plantlets are formed, already with a small root ball.

Regsames Brutblatt (Bryophyllum daigremontianum)

This Kalanchoe is bushy awake, with brown spotted, narrow leaves. Your Kindel carries it only at the extreme tip of the leaf. In botanical gardens, the propagation rage of this plant is sometimes very annoying, because their children thrive in every possible place.

Tips

It is a broody leaf that Goethe described in his poem "The Metamorphosis of Plants". The great German poet was engaged throughout his life with botany, the Kalanchoe should have been one of his favorite plants.
