The Judas tree likes to stand in the sun
Judas tree prefers sunny location
The Judas tree (Cercis siliquastrum), so called because of its reminding of the biblical silver leaves, is an impressive and extraordinary flowering wood. The attractive, usually in spring pink or white flowering tree is one of the family members, because its beautiful flowers spring not only from the young wood, but also older branches and even the trunk.
Location depending on the type
Basically, the Judas tree is among the plants that prefer a warm, sunny and sheltered location. However, the warmth and sun-hungry groves are divided into different species, all of which react slightly differently sensitive to cold. Probably the least sensitive to frost and other winter hardships are the two species of Chinese Judas tree (Cercis chinensis) and Canadian Judas tree (Cercis canadensis). Do not go wrong with a south-facing square in the garden.
Optimal soil conditions
In addition, the Judas tree prefers a rather calcareous and permeable soil, which should also be as dry as possible. Depending on the species and variety, the woodland also tolerates humus-rich soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
Tips
The Judas tree is very easy to maintain and usually does not need to be fertilized or watered.
