Increase the hydrangea by cuttings
Hydrangeas are among the most popular garden plants because of their compact growth and incomparable flower abundance. The cuttings propagation of the hydrangea is quite straightforward and succeeds even if you are not blessed with the proverbial green thumb. For small money, you can realize the dream of a blossoming hydrangea hedge by using itself offshoots.
Cutting cuttings
In order for the offshoots to take root as quickly as possible, it is important to cut the cuttings from a one-year, non lignified and flowerless shoot. Separate it below the leaf node with a sharp knife.
Only one or two pairs of leaves remain on the cutting.Since the hydrangea leaves are quite large, they are halved to reduce the evaporation surface. Thus, the offshoot gets enough water despite the not yet existing roots and does not dry up.

Proceed as follows:
Once a day, the mini-greenhouse must be ventilated to allow the humidity to escape. Keep the soil moist but not wet so that the roots do not start to rot. After a few weeks, the cuttings have formed a small root ball.
Separation of the cuttings
Transplant the rooted offshoots into pots about ten centimeters across. You can already place the small plants in special hydrangea soil or continue to cultivate in seedling soil.
Place the pots in an open and sheltered location. During the first winter you should overwinter the small Hydrangea plants in the house, as the offshoots are still quite sensitive to frost.
Next spring, you can slowly get the hydrangeas used to the field and transplant them into the garden.
Tips & Tricks
Hydrangeas need a lot of water to thrive. Never allow the soil to dry out completely and pour it moderately but regularly.
