Well-groomed hydrangeas show first flowers already in June
The heyday of hydrangea
For many years, the hydrangea was barely found in our gardens because the plant was considered old-fashioned. Completely unfair as we think, because the large inflorescences give gardens and greenery a romantic flair. In addition, the hydrangea adorns shady garden corners, which are otherwise often difficult to design. The garden beauty impresses with a long flowering time.
The months of the main blossom
If the hydrangea feels well at its location and has been sufficiently fertilized, the first flowers appear in June. They remain well into September and must not be removed even in winter. Covered with frost and snow, they give the garden a morbid charm.
Hydrangeas do not cut after flowering
Many species of hydrangea plant already at the end of the flowering period in late summer, when the temperatures fall below 20 degrees during the day, the flowering approaches for the next year. It is therefore advisable to cut out only the dried branches in the fall in order not to have to do without the floral decoration in the following year.
Attention in late frosts
Night frosts in spring can almost completely destroy the flower bud of the Hydrangea. Therefore, make sure not only in harsh areas for adequate winter protection. It is recommended that blooms in the fall no longer break out, as the flowered umbels form a natural protection against frosts.
Tips & Tricks
Cut hydrangea flowers for the vase relatively late in flowering, because only then do the petals have sufficient strength. If the flowers in the vase are fragile and lose color, you can dry them and put them in trays as an attractive room decoration.
