Hydrangea "Limelight" - The more radical the cut, the bigger the flowers
The panicle hydrangea "Limelight" is a relatively new breed, which stands out for its first green-white, later lemon yellow flowers. The inflorescences are very dense and very compact, with only the sterile flowers are visible. For a sumptuous blooming of flowers "limelight" should be cut back every year, because this hydrangea variety blooms only on the new wood.
Remove inflorescences or not?
Experienced gardeners remove the dried inflorescences in late autumn or early winter. Of course, you can also leave these and just cut away with the spring cut, but experience has shown that the risk of gray mold infestation is considerably increased, especially in very wet winters. In fact, the spores of this harmful fungus in the dry inflorescences find an ideal shelter for the winter, and then, as soon as the budding has started, to become active again with the returning heat.
Cut back limelight

You should closely inspect your panicle hydrangea "Limelight" every fall. All damaged, stunted or malformed parts must be removed. However, if you do not want to be quite so radical, cut out only the three to four oldest shoots from the middle and shorten all side shoots to a length of about 10 centimeters.
Tips & Tricks
If you want to cut cuttings, choose head cuttings from non-flowering shoots. The best time for the cuttings propagation is the vegetation period between June and August.
