Pulling honey palm in the field or conservatory
The honey palm owes its name to the sweet juice used to extract palm honey. The seeds of the palm are called Coquito and are also edible. In Germany, the honey palm is kept as an ornamental plant in the winter garden or outdoor.
Where does the honey palm come from?
The tree is native to Chile and reaches considerable proportions in the Mediterranean climate. The botanical name is Jubaea chilensis.

Can the honey palm be kept outdoors?
Honey palms can be planted in the field, but not before the plant is at least five years old. Then she gets along well with light minus temperatures well. Fruits will only develop in very mild climates.

Nevertheless, you should ensure winter protection, especially if the palm is in a somewhat draughty place. Cover the floor with a mulch or nonwoven material and wrap the leaves as a precaution.
How is the honey palm multiplied?
Propagation is by the seed called Coquito. Translated it means "coconut", because the taste is similar to that of coconut.
Can the palm be transplanted?
Older specimens in the field should not be transplanted if possible, unless they are in a very unfavorable place. For this, the long taproot must be completely excavated. Unfortunately, most older honey palms do not survive transplanting.
You must transplant honey pots planted in the tub every few years, whenever the pot becomes too small and the roots stick out of the ground.
In the first years transplanting is rarely necessary because of the slow growth.
What should be considered when keeping as a container plant?
The honey palm may spend the summer on the sunny terrace. In winter, it prefers a cool, not too bright location in a frost-free room.
During the winter, do not water the plant sparingly so that the bale does not dry out completely.
