How to combat millet in the lawn in success

How does millet get into the grass?
In the last 20 years, numerous types of millet have migrated to Germany and have since spread explosively through wind, water, birds and contaminated lawn seeds. The coarse wild grass has the unpleasant property of germinating very quickly and of overgrowing the noble grasses in the lawn. You can recognize millet in the grass by these characteristics:

It is a race against time, because the millet can not be stopped in the lawn by chemical means. To prevent it from happening, comb the weeds out of the lawn in time with the scarifier. Here's how to do it:

Sour grassy soil creep up on millet - that's how it works
Broad-leaved millet prefers to settle where an acid soil value prevails. An uncomplicated pH test shows what your lawn is like. If the result is below the ideal value of 6-7, the lawn should be chalked. Recommended is a mild algae lime, which can be applied throughout the year.
Depending on the test result, lime the lawn in a dosage of 100 to 300 grams per square meter. Ideally, the rate has recently been scarred or aerated, as it is then particularly receptive. Thanks to this measure, the pH increases so much that millet does not even settle.
Tips & Tricks
As long as more grasses than millet thrive in the lawn, you can counteract the invasion even in midsummer by scarifying. The device is adjusted so that the blades do not touch the ground. Instead, they raise the downy roots and shoots of the millet, to later capture them with the lawnmower. This technique is far less troublesome than weeding each millet individually.
