The best season for autumn anemones is spring
Autumn anemones are only really hardy when they are at the same place for at least two years. The perennials should be planted in the spring so that enough roots can form. Autumn anemones planted in the field in autumn almost never survive the first winter.
Plant autumn anemones in spring
As with anemones made from onions, spring is the best time to plant autumn anemones.
The long taproots of the Anemone hupehensis then have enough time to develop and cope with low temperatures.
The perennial must be protected in the first winter with a winter protection against excessive frost.
Tips & Tricks
If you want to cut root cuttings from the anemone hupehensis, August is well suited for that. The cuttings must be pulled over the winter in the pot and may be planted in the field only in the following year.
