The hanging birch is a true pioneering spirit, because it settles in no time preferably brownfields. It must be fast and effective against other plants. The hanging birch has developed a clever strategy for this, as it prefers to multiply by its seeds, which are very widespread by the wind. These are contained in small, inconspicuous winglets - the fruits of the hanging birch - and mature between about July and September. Already three weeks after spreading the seeds germinate. The seedlings reach considerable sizes in no time - as I said, birches have to be fast to thrive in nature.
Sow the seeds of the hanging birch
If you want to cultivate a hanging birch in your garden, you do not necessarily need to buy such a tree in the nursery. Instead, they can dig up an already-developed seedling and replant it at its new location - as a rule, it will grow there very well and grow rapidly. But you can also bring your own collected or purchased seeds and cultivate your own tree from the beginning. The seeds will germinate within about two to four weeks. They can turn the young seedlings into nutrient-rich substrate as soon as they reach a height of about 15 to 20 centimeters.
Tips
One to two-year-old shoots that are cut in early summer are suitable for the propagation of cuttings. Be sure to always seal well on mother plants.
