Colorful bloom of pomegranate
Some pomegranate cultivars are cultivated solely for flowering. The often-filled flowers of these ornamental pomegranate trees and shrubs shine orange and are an ornament for any garden. From the flowers, however, do not always develop fruits.
The pomegranate flowers appear depending on weather conditions from early spring (Asia) to the summer (Europe). The flowers develop at the ends of this year's shoots. The flowers are 2-3 cm long, have a diameter of about 1.5 cm and are funnel-shaped. The color varies from orange-red to light yellow, depending on the variety. The varieties developed for their flowers are pure ornamental and do not bear fruit.
Tips & Tricks
The pomegranate shrubs, which can bear fruit, require a special phosphorus and potash fertilizer to form the fruit from the flower. Otherwise the fruits will not ripen or fall off the shrub.
