But do not over-water the gladiolus, but only water when the surface of the earth feels dry. Immediately dump excess irrigation water in the saucer so that the onions do not start to rot.
Fertilization is done weekly with a fertilizer for flowering plants. Apply the product exactly as per the package instructions to provide the gladiolus with all the necessary nutrients.
After flowering
If you would like to enjoy the magnificent flowers next year, at first only the flowered stem will be cut back. The leaves remain on the onion until autumn so that they can continue to grow and store the necessary nutrients and trace elements for the next year. Before winter, the onions are taken out of the pot and stored in the house.
Tips
If the gladiolus bulbs are to be driven out very quickly, you can only give them about three-thirds into the soil. However, the onion does not grow so tight. Be sure to tie the tightly upright flowering branch to a bamboo pole or balcony railing.
