Pull Gerbera on the balcony in summer
As pretty as the gerbera is as a pot or container plant, it is so demanding in terms of care and location. As a houseplant, it does not always thrive optimally in the house. Send your Gerbera in the summer on vacation on the balcony.
Moving to the Eisheiligen
Gerbera in the pot does not tolerate temperatures below 15 degrees. Therefore, bring the plant only on the balcony, when the end of May, the icy saints are over. Then there is no longer the risk that it will be too cold for the tropical plant.

The right location on the balcony
As a child of the tropics, the gerbera needs a lot of light. She also likes direct sun in the morning and evening hours. You do not get blazing sunshine at lunchtime. The tender leaves burn in the strong sunshine.
Create a location where the gerbera is beautifully airy and shady in the midday heat. If necessary, you should provide for a light sun protection, for example by placing a curtain over the balcony grill.
Do not forget to pour
Especially in summer Gerbera is very thirsty. So do not forget to take care of water regularly. Always pour gerbera from below. Then no waterlogging can arise.
On hot days you need to water gerbera in the pot on the balcony several times a day. Also spray the leaves regularly with a garden sprayer to increase the humidity.
The nutrient requirement is higher outdoors than indoors. If you want to achieve a beautiful, perennial flower, you should therefore, once a week, add some fertilizer to the irrigation water.
Tips & Tricks
If you want to plant Gerbera in the tub or pot on the balcony or terrace, you will ensure good, loose garden soil. Refine too dense soil with perlite, a type of rock that keeps the soil pervious. Perlite prevents the earth from being moldy due to the high humidity.
