What has to be done with the lawn mower, so that it is ready to go again next spring, we have summarized in a small guide for you. From our own experience, we know that it is far from sufficient to rely solely on a long-term guarantee, as they sometimes give brand manufacturers for their pruning shears.
Especially after the season a little more work is required for these often overworked garden helpers so that they will be ready for use again next spring. Saving shovels, spades and hoes with cooking oil and sand to winter quarters is a somewhat unusual but very effective constellation.
Safe wintering in the sand?
After use, basically none of our garden tools should be left uncleaned.Before they are stored for several months in a dry and as airy place in the shed, clean the pruning shears, pickaxe, folding saw and Co. once again thoroughly with wire brush, spirit and a lot of water. Who wants to do it very thoroughly, requires oil-soaked sand and a larger bucket into which the metal parts of the garden tools are simply inserted. As a result, they are cleaned, perfectly greased and hardly prone to corrosion. The edible oil-sand mixture can then be easily disposed of on the compost.
Make garden shears fit for the winter
High-quality hand or pruning shears are relatively easy to disassemble completely, which requires only a very small amount of time and is definitely worthwhile. Before storing, it is especially important to carefully remove the blades from the rest of the garden soil and start rusting. This work can be done very easily by processing it with steel wool previously soaked in spirit and then sharpening it with a whetstone. Now all you have to do is rub in all the joints and springs of the scissors with an oil flap and finally tighten all screw connections during assembly.

Also for the sturdy garden tools with handles, they should be cleaned and cleaned in winter quarters. After removing dirt and removing traces of rust with a wire brush and steel wool, the metal parts can be rubbed in with a wash preservative, similar to a car, to protect against corrosion. If the leaves are previously processed with a grinding block or angle grinder, they will remain nice and sharp until next spring. Check also on this occasion the firm seat of all stems and exchange worn out parts better immediately.
Water hoses like it lying!
Plastic hoses belong to the particularly frost-sensitive garden utensils and, filled with residual water, can already take a slight drop in the negative temperatures. After complete emptying you store your garden hose simply, but twist-free and kink-free, horizontally on the scale floor, on which you roll it up beforehand in circle form. Defective areas can be cut out the same way and reassembled at the ends with the aid of hose bands or cuffs.
