Proven hardy fuchsias
The overview below gives you an overview of recommended winter hardy fuchsia varieties, which are almost without exception to very old - partly originating from the mid-19th century - breeding. These have proven themselves to this day in German gardens and are gladly planted. Of course, the list is not complete, because in total there are about 70 to 100 winter hardy Fuchsia cultivars in our climate - apart from the mostly hardy wild forms or the wild forms very similar variants as Fuchsia magellanica, Fuchsia procumbens or Fuchsia regia.

For most winter hardy Fuchsien the aboveground plant parts freeze back and should be cut back in early spring. The plants are about to leave the rootstock again from April. An exception is Fuchsia regia, which does not freeze but expels from its wood. Fuchsia regia is also much more resistant to frost than other fuchsia species.
Tips
In winter hardy fuchsias can be problematic so-called dry freezing in winter, in which the plants can dry up due to lack of soil moisture (for example, in Kahlfrost).
